Job description
NorthStar Mining Group is seeking a results-driven Senior Mining Engineer to lead open-pit design, scheduling, and geotechnical assessment in our Perth operations. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize ore recovery, manage risk, and ensure HSE compliance across the mine lifecycle.
In this role, you will leverage your expertise in mine planning, pit optimization, and technical reporting to deliver actionable recommendations and cost-effective solutions.
Responsibility
- Lead open-pit mine planning, scheduling, and design optimization using Surpac, Vulcan, and related tools.
- Develop and review geotechnical models and stability analyses to ensure safe, compliant operations.
- Prepare technical reports, pit optimizations, and life-of-mine plans for management and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with geology, processing, and operations teams to optimize ore recovery and throughput.
- Manage project work packs, budgeting, and risk management in line with HSE standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to field teams.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, ESG commitments, and company standards.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent; Master’s preferred.
- Professional Engineering licensure or eligibility to obtain in Australia.
- Minimum 5 years of open-pit mining experience with strong pit design and geotechnical analysis.
- Proficiency with mine planning software: Surpac, Vulcan, Leapfrog, AutoCAD.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to prepare high-quality technical reports.
- Experience with HSE standards and regulatory compliance in mining operations.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team in a remote site or regional hub.
