Join Coherent in Ipoh as a Senior Process & Equipment Engineer - Backend/Labeling Engineering. In this role, you will own the backend processes for labeling lines, drive maintenance, debugging, and software documentation to ensure robust equipment performance and product quality. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and apply data-driven approaches to optimize throughput and minimize downtime. A key focus will be conducting gage repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R) studies and maintaining calibration programs to guarantee measurement integrity across the production line.
As a senior engineer, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives, define control strategies, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards. Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining SOPs, work instructions, and equipment logs; monitoring key performance indicators; and implementing software improvements that support backend processes and labeling operations. This role requires strong hands-on troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and effective communication to mentor technicians and collaborate with suppliers and internal teams.

Experience with SPC, DOE, FMEA, and data analytics is essential. You will monitor calibration schedules, perform root-cause investigations, and drive projects from concept through implementation. You will also participate in vendor assessments, drive cost reduction, energy efficiency, and waste minimization where possible. Responsibility
- Lead optimization of backend processes for labeling lines, including parameterization, cycle time reduction, yield improvement, and throughput enhancements.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance, rapid fault diagnosis, root-cause analysis, and downtime reduction.
- Execute GR&R studies, calibration plans, measurement system analysis to ensure data integrity for labeling processes.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and QA teams to implement robust control strategies, documentation, and change management for labeling systems.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, equipment logs, calibration records, and change documentation; ensure regulatory and quality compliance.
- Analyze process data (SPC, control charts, trend analysis) to identify root causes; plan and execute DOE experiments to validate improvements.
- Mentor and train operators/technicians; lead investigations, participate in safety programs, and promote continuous improvement culture.
- Support equipment upgrades, vendor assessments, cost reduction, energy efficiency, and waste minimization initiatives.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or related engineering; Master's degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in process and equipment engineering in manufacturing environments; experience with labeling, packaging, or semiconductor equipment is a plus.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting, debugging, and maintenance skills; ability to work on complex backend processes.
- Proficiency with measurement systems analysis (GR&R), Statistical Process Control (SPC), DOE, FMEA; data-driven decision making.
- Experience with documentation tools, MES/SCADA/PLC software, and automation interfaces; ability to create SOPs and logs.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities; capable of working in a fast-paced environment; willingness to relocate to Ipoh.
- Knowledge of safety and quality standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001) and continuous improvement methodologies.
