Job description
Join Apex Quantum Institute as a Senior Quantum Materials Physicist. You will lead a multidisciplinary team focused on discovering and characterizing novel quantum materials with potential for scalable quantum technologies.
We seek a creative problem-solver with a strong track record in experimental condensed matter physics, cryogenic measurements, and materials synthesis. This is an opportunity to influence the direction of research, mentor scientists, and contribute to high-impact publications.
Responsibilities include designing experiments, coordinating fabrication and measurement campaigns, analyzing data, presenting results to internal and external stakeholders, securing funding, and collaborating across theory and device groups.
We offer competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and access to state-of-the-art facilities. Relocation assistance provided.
Responsibility
- Lead the conception and execution of experimental campaigns in quantum materials and condensed matter physics.
- Design and oversee materials synthesis, characterization, and low-temperature measurement campaigns (milliKelvin to a few Kelvin).
- Develop data analysis pipelines, validate results, and present findings to cross-disciplinary teams.
- Collaborate with theorists and device groups to translate fundamental insights into scalable platforms.
- Mentor postdocs, graduate students, and junior researchers; manage project timelines and milestones.
- Prepare and contribute to grant proposals, progress reports, and high-impact publications.
- Maintain and operate advanced instrumentation; ensure safety and compliance in the lab.
Qualification
- PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related field with 5+ years of hands-on experience in experimental quantum materials.
- Proven track record in low-temperature measurements, cryogenics, and materials synthesis (e.g., thin films, 2D materials).
- Strong expertise in techniques such as cryogenics, STM/STS, ARPES, transport measurements, and/or scanning probe methods.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, publish results in peer-reviewed journals, and present at international conferences.
- Proven leadership and mentorship experience; ability to collaborate across theory, devices, and engineering teams.
- Excellent communication skills and track record of grant writing or proposal development.
- Commitment to safety, ethics, and diversity in research environments.
