Job description

Join the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) as a Senior Scientist in Intelligent Transportation Solutions. In this role, you will lead groundbreaking research at the intersection of GNSS-based positioning, autonomous mobility, and urban energy networks. You will design robust algorithms that fuse GNSS signals with inertial sensors, map data, and AI-driven perception to deliver accurate, resilient vehicle localization in demanding urban environments. Your work will influence next-generation intelligent transportation systems deployed in Singapore and beyond.

As a senior scientist, you will mentor a team of researchers, collaborate with cross-disciplinary engineers, data scientists and industry partners to translate theoretical insights into scalable prototypes and pilots. You will plan experiments, collect and analyze large datasets, validate models in real-world trials, and communicate results to technical and policy audiences. You will also contribute to the development of urban charging networks and mobility services that support sustainable urban mobility.

We seek a collaborative innovator who thrives in a fast-moving research ecosystem, with a strong record of publications and demonstrated impact in ITS, GNSS, AI, sensor fusion and software prototyping. If you are excited to shape the future of intelligent transportation, this role offers you a unique opportunity to work at the frontier of technology with real-world societal impact.

Responsibility

  • Lead research programs in intelligent transportation systems, GNSS-based positioning, sensor fusion, and AI-enhanced localization for urban mobility.
  • Design, implement and evaluate algorithms that integrate GNSS, INS, map data, and perception models to achieve robust vehicle positioning in challenging environments.
  • Develop prototypes and pilots for resilient urban charging networks and mobility services in collaboration with industry partners and government stakeholders.
  • Plan experiments, collect and analyze large-scale datasets, run simulations, and publish results in technical reports and journals.
  • Mentor and supervise a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers and researchers; manage project timelines and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to build scalable data pipelines, analytics tools, and software prototypes for deployment.
  • Communicate research insights to technical and policy audiences and contribute to IP generation and technology transfer activities.

Qualification

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field; or a Master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant research experience in ITS and GNSS.
  • Strong expertise in GNSS, GNSS/INS integration, multi-sensor fusion, and localization algorithms for urban environments.
  • Proficiency in AI/ML techniques (supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning) applied to perception, localization, and mobility.
  • Hands-on experience with Python, MATLAB, and C/C++ for research and prototyping; familiarity with GIS and spatial data analysis.
  • Proven track record of research publications, conference presentations, and collaboration with industry or government partners.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills; ability to drive projects across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience with data management, cloud computing, and scalable software development processes.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic research environment and mentor junior team members.
