Job description
BlueLine Transit & Logistics is seeking a Senior Transportation Planner to lead transportation planning initiatives in the Seattle region. You will design and optimize freight and last-mile routes, forecast demand, and drive cost efficiency while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
In this role, you will collaborate with operations, procurement, engineering, and external vendors to deliver reliable, scalable transport solutions that support our growing network.
What you’ll do: analyze data, develop models, and present recommendations to executive leadership; build strong relationships with carriers, shippers, and municipal partners; and champion sustainable transport practices across our network.
Responsibility
- Develop and optimize urban freight and last-mile transportation plans for the Seattle region, balancing cost, service levels, and sustainability.
- Analyze transportation data to build route optimization models, capacity forecasts, and KPI dashboards.
- Collaborate with operations, procurement, engineering, and external vendors to deliver reliable transport solutions.
- Manage fleet utilization, capacity planning, and contingency planning for peak periods.
- Prepare budgets, business cases, and performance reports to guide decision-making at the regional level.
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, safety standards, and environmental requirements.
- Lead regional carrier tender processes, contract negotiations, and vendor performance management.
- Drive sustainability initiatives, such as mode shift and emissions reduction programs.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in transportation planning or logistics, preferably in urban or regional networks.
- Proficiency with data analytics tools (Excel, SQL, or Python) and GIS for spatial analysis.
- Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and routing software; familiarity with SAP/Oracle is a plus.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, safety compliance, and regulatory reporting.
- Project management and vendor management experience; ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
- Analytical mindset with a results-driven approach and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
