Job description
Global WASH Solutions is seeking a Senior WASH Engineer to lead multi-disciplinary teams delivering high-impact water and sanitation projects in Nairobi and across Kenya.
In this role, you will design and optimize water supply systems, sanitation networks, and wastewater solutions; ensure technical excellence, safety, and compliance with donor specifications; and mentor engineers and field staff.
This position blends field and office work, with opportunities to influence policy, engage with communities, and drive sustainable outcomes that improve access to safe water and sanitation services.
Responsibility
- Lead end-to-end WASH project design and implementation, including water supply hydraulics, storage, distribution networks, and sanitation solutions.
- Coordinate feasibility studies, technical designs, and Bill of Quantities with clients and donors.
- Oversee field teams during construction, commissioning, and operation of water and sanitation facilities.
- Ensure compliance with national regulations, donor requirements, and quality assurance protocols.
- Develop monitoring and evaluation plans, track KPIs, and prepare progress reports for stakeholders.
- Manage project risks, budgets, schedules, and procurement activities in collaboration with the project manager.
- Engage communities and local authorities, build partnerships, and provide technical training to local staff.
- Support proposal writing and business development to expand WASH program portfolio.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Water Resources, or a related field; Masterβs preferred.
- Minimum 7-10 years of progressive WASH design and project management experience.
- Proven experience with water supply, sanitation systems, hydraulics, and sanitation technologies.
- Strong knowledge of WASH sector policies, standards, and donor compliance.
- Project management certification (PMP or equivalent) and hands-on budget management.
- Excellent communication, report writing, and stakeholder engagement skills in English; Kiswahili is a plus.
- Proficiency with design software (EPANET, hydraulic modeling tools), GIS, MS Office; ability to manage field operations.
- Willingness to travel and work in challenging field conditions; commitment to community-centered approaches.
