Job description
We are seeking a Senior Water & Sanitation Engineer to lead the design, delivery, and sustainable operation of WASH projects in Lagos. This role blends advanced hydrology and sanitation engineering with strong stakeholder collaboration to provide reliable water supply, safe sanitation facilities, and resilient infrastructure to communities and institutions.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will translate needs into technically sound designs, supervise construction and commissioning, and ensure compliance with international WASH standards.
Responsibility
- Lead end-to-end design and delivery of water supply and sanitation projects, from concept through commissioning.
- Develop technical designs, drawings, specifications, and construction bids in line with local codes and WHO/UNICEF WASH standards.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, risk, and quality assurance across multiple sites.
- Coordinate with government authorities, utilities, communities, and partners for permits, social acceptance, and sustainability planning.
- Oversee construction supervision, testing, commissioning, and handover to operations teams.
- Develop operation and maintenance plans, training programs, and handover documentation.
- Monitor performance metrics, collect data, and prepare technical reports for stakeholders and funders.
Qualification
- Bachelor degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering or related WASH field; Masters preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in water supply, sanitation, and resilience projects, preferably in developing contexts.
- Professional registration (EPC or local equivalent) is a plus.
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, and MS Office; familiarity with hydraulic modeling tools (EPANET/HEC-RAS) is desirable.
- Solid knowledge of WASH standards and guidelines (WHO/UNICEF, SBCC).
- Excellent written and verbal communication, stakeholder engagement, and report writing skills.
- Ability to work in multicultural teams and manage project workstreams in dynamic environments.
- Willingness to travel to field sites as required and comply with safety policies.
