We are seeking a Senior Water and Sanitation Engineer to lead project design, implementation, and capacity building initiatives. The ideal candidate will combine technical excellence with strong stakeholder engagement and the ability to translate complex data into practical, on-the-ground improvements.
In this role you will manage multi-disciplinary teams, ensure compliance with local regulations, and drive impact through innovative solutions that improve access to safe water and sanitation services.
Responsibility
- Lead end-to-end design and delivery of water supply, wastewater, and sanitation projects from feasibility to commissioning.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including engineers, hydrologists, microbiologists, and field technicians to ensure timely, on-budget delivery.
- Develop technical designs, BOMs, and construction drawings and review vendor proposals and contractor work.
- Monitor project performance using KPIs, risk registers, and quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with national and international standards.
- Engage with government agencies, utilities, communities, and donors to secure approvals, permits, and funding where applicable.
- Lead capacity-building efforts, including training local staff and community stakeholders on operation and maintenance of water and sanitation systems.
- Assess and mitigate environmental and social impacts, and integrate climate-resilient approaches into project design.
- Prepare compelling technical reports, proposals, and presentations for clients and partners.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Water Resources, or related engineering field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in WASH projects, preferably in urban settings; field experience required.
- Strong knowledge of water supply, sanitation, wastewater treatment, and non-revenue water reduction.
- Proficiency in hydraulic modeling (EPANET, SWMM) and GIS software; CAD/BIM experience welcome.
- Experience with project management, budgeting, and scheduling; PMI or equivalent certification is a plus.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and report-writing skills; fluency in English; local language a plus.
- Professional Engineer registration or license is highly desirable.
