Empire City Theatre, a premier contemporary performance venue in New York City, invites a skilled Stage Manager to join our artistic team. This role oversees all logistical and operational aspects of productions from rehearsals through final curtain call, ensuring safety, schedule discipline, and creative excellence.
We seek a proactive leader with top-notch communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a collaborative spirit able to coordinate cast, crew, designers, and vendors in a fast-paced theatre environment.
Responsibility
- Coordinate rehearsal and performance schedules, call times, and run orders in collaboration with the Director and Stage Director.
- Lead daily company calls and maintain accurate call sheets, production calendars, and cue sheets.
- Oversee safety, continuity, and compliance across all rehearsal and performance activities.
- Manage on-site operations during tech, previews, and performances, including cue execution and problem resolution.
- Supervise stage crew, fly system, lighting, sound, and props teams; troubleshoot technical issues in real time.
- Communicate with designers, vendors, and theater staff to ensure timely delivery of all production elements.
- Maintain production binders, scripts, and documentation; archive notes for future productions.
- Support cast and crew welfare, collaboration, and a positive, professional work environment.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Theatre or equivalent professional experience.
- 3+ years of stage management experience in theatre or live performance.
- Strong leadership, organization, and time-management skills; ability to multitask under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities with actors, designers, and crew.
- Proficiency with stage management software and tools (e.g., QLab, Show Cue System, or similar).
- Experience coordinating with cross-functional teams and managing budgets and inventory.
- Availability for evenings, weekends, and extended tech periods as production requires.
