Job description

NovaStage Productions, a premier presenting and producing company in New York City, is seeking an experienced Stage Manager to lead backstage operations for multi-night performances, tours, and special events.

As a pivotal member of our artistic team, you will coordinate timing, cast and crew communication, rehearsals, and show run logistics to ensure flawless productions that captivate audiences while upholding the highest standards of safety and professionalism.

Responsibility

  • Coordinate all show calls, cues, and technical timing across rehearsals and performances.
  • Create and distribute show rundowns, cue sheets, and call sheets; manage on-the-fly adjustments.
  • Coordinate load-in/load-out, stage movements, prop management, and costume changes to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Oversee safety protocols, risk assessments, and compliance with venue requirements.
  • Lead communications with producers, directors, designers, and technicians; document decisions and actions.
  • Maintain production calendars, rehearsal schedules, and travel logistics for tours and engagements.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues (lighting, sound, video) and liaise with venue staff to resolve problems quickly.

Qualification

  • Proven stage management experience in professional theatre, dance, or live performance (3+ years preferred).
  • Proficient in cueing software (QLab, Show Cue System) and basic lighting/sound terminology.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; able to coordinate diverse teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent memory for cues, timings, and blocking.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel for tours.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and basic rigging and prop handling best practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in Theatre, Performing Arts, Communications, or related field preferred.
