Job description

Ovivo Water is seeking a skilled Welder to join our project execution teams in Perai, Penang. In this full-time role, you will be responsible for fusion welding and fabrication of thermoplastic pipes and fittings in accordance with project specifications, design drawings, and industry standards. You will contribute to the delivery of reliable, high-quality piping solutions that support clean water, wastewater, and process systems for our clients.

Key tasks include reading and interpreting engineering drawings and welding procedures, performing butt fusion and electrofusion welds on HDPE and other thermoplastic materials, cutting, beveling, and preparing pipe segments, and fabricating assemblies to exact tolerances. You will also seal, align, test, and inspect welds, perform routine maintenance on welding equipment, and maintain detailed production records. Collaboration with pipe fitters, technicians, and project engineers is essential to ensure safe, efficient installations and to resolve any fabrication challenges on site or in the workshop. Throughout all work, you will follow safety policies, participate in toolbox talks, and contribute to a culture of quality assurance and continuous improvement.

Responsibility

  • Read project specifications and drawings to determine welding procedures and sequence.
  • Perform butt fusion and electrofusion welding on HDPE and other thermoplastic piping.
  • Prepare surfaces, cut, bevel, and fit pipes and fittings; ensure alignment and proper tolerances.
  • Fabricate assemblies and sections for installation, ensuring structural integrity and leak-free joints.
  • Inspect welds visually and with go/no-go gauges; document results and ensure QA/QC compliance.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot welding equipment; perform routine maintenance and calibration as required.
  • Maintain accurate production records, material usage, and progress updates; coordinate with project teams to meet timelines.
  • Adhere to safety policies, use appropriate PPE, and participate in toolbox talks and risk assessments.

Qualification

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in thermoplastic welding or plastic fabrication.
  • Certification in plastic welding or equivalent training; ability to read welding procedures and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency in butt fusion and electrofusion welding of HDPE; CPVC knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong reading and interpretation of technical drawings and specifications; basic measurement and math skills.
  • Solid safety mindset with the ability to work in physically demanding environments; willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills; reliable, proactive, and capable of problem-solving on-site.
